The Leather Store has been operating in Helena Montana in one form or another since the 1980's. Originally conceived by Tom McKenzie, The Leather Store started out selling goods at swap meets and several other small locations around town. The Leather Store became a brick and mortar store in the historic Last Chance Gulch shopping district in downtown Helena in 1997.

Lonnie Morgan has been learning leather craft and producing leather crafted goods since the 1970's. Lonnie met Tom in the 1990's and did side-work for him repairing leather items. Eventually, Lonnie bought The Leather Store from Tom in 2000. For the next 11 years, the Morgan Family operated The Leather Store on "The Gulch" until closing those doors in 2011.

Today, The Leather Store is mostly an online business owned and operated by Lonnie and Annie Morgan. We continue the tradition of producing "The Original Buffalo Wallet" line for both wholesale and retail markets. The Leather Store also has a small studio on the West side of Helena, which is open to the public by appointment. We love what we do, and it is our honor to serve you.
